Appropriately, Windows 10 to get 10-year support from Microsoft

Users of Windows 10, Microsoft's upcoming flagship operating system, may be assured of continued support from the software giant for a period of – you guessed it – 10 years.

This was shown in a fact sheet by Microsoft on the life-cycle of Windows 10, updated only this month.
In the fact sheet, Windows 10 will have its end of mainstream support on Oct. 13, 2020 – and its end of extended support on Oct. 14, 2025.
"End of support refers to the date when Microsoft no longer provides automatic fixes, updates, or online technical assistance. This is the time to make sure you have the latest available update or service pack installed. Without Microsoft support, you will no longer receive security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software that can steal your personal information," Microsoft said.
Microsoft is to release Windows 10 on July 29.
Updates may include new features, fixes or both.
A separate report by ZDNet's Ed Bott said this clarifies an announcement by Microsoft's Terry Myerson earlier this year that a device upgraded to Windows 10 will be kept current "for the supported lifetime of the device – at no additional charge."
But ZDNet's Bott also said Microsoft remains unclear on "what happens in two or three years."
"In the past, that would have been time for a new version of Windows to take its place on the support lifecycle chart and bump the old one down a notch. With Windows as a continually evolving platform, that option isn't available," Bott wrote.  Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
