AUSTIN (KXAN) — With the increasing amount of deaths of children left in hot cars, there is new technology out there for parents.
Chrissy Mattison is a mom of two boys. When they were younger, the idea of ever leaving them in an overheated car was her biggest fear.
“I scared myself away from doing it because I was so panicked it was gonna happen to me,” Mattison remembers.
So Mattison would use old school tricks to remind herself her kids were seat belted in, in the backseat. Now, there is new technology.
A bracelet called a Buddy Tag goes on your kids wrist then you activate the app.
“It’ll alert you when your child goes out of range or you go out of range of your child,” Brandee Spratley, a Buy Buy Baby employee. You can also set the distance for when the alarm is triggered.
The Buddy Tag isn’t the only high-tech reminder for parents. There are now smart car seats like the one from EvenFlo. It can sense when a baby is left behind and sounds an alarm.
If you don’t want to buy the whole car seat, you can purchase a clip to replace the car seat buckle that will also trigger an alarm
Mattison said even with that technology, parents need to just slow down
“Don’t be in such a rush to get to places. Because if you are in a rush and do not take that time to remember, you will never forgive yourself.”
