BOISE, Idaho -- Boise Police Officers and Boise Firefighters say they need to be as efficient as possible. That's because, for them, saving time could mean saving lives. Some new state-of-the-art technology is helping them do just that.
Boise is, and has been for years, a growing community. That presents some challenges for firefighters and police officers like Deputy Chief of BPD, Scott Mulcahy. "The ability to get from point 'A' to point 'B' is not as easy as it used to be."
Mulcahy says officers were wasting more and more time driving back to the station to get critical information and file reports, "So, we needed a way for officers to be able work in their car like if they were in the station, connected to the network."
That meant putting a wireless router in every patrol vehicle. But, these routers needed to very fast, very secure, and very reliable. BPD couldn't find any companies to provide them with that technology, until they found Boise-based Cradlepoint about a year-and-a-half ago. Now, officers are saving a lot of time, and able to protect you and your families better.
Mulcahy says, "He can type his report in the field, look stuff up through DMV, through jail management, arrest records, all the police records, without every having to drive back to the station."
Meanwhile, Boise Fire's Division Chief of Special Operations Paul Roberts says his Department is using the Cradlepoint technology to connect worldwide, "The Cradlepoint provides us a very functional tool to provide connectivity to really anywhere that somebody has connectivity on the other side."
Roberts says they've already used it to combine networks with Departments as far away as New Jersey, all in an effort to have life-saving information right when they need it, which is right now, "It provides us the ability to make real-time decisions with real-time information."
