Ohio Bill Introduces Technology for Deep Space Exploration

Two U.S. senators introduce a new technology that leads NASA in space exploration.
Sunpower Inc. in Athens, Ohio partnered with NASA Glenn in Cleveland to launch technology called Advanced Stirling Conversion.
It powers deep space exploration through the use of radioisotopes. The technology is four times more efficient than the current power systems.
This new development can end the use of plutonium from overseas. It has been in the works for the last few years and one senator says it benefits the economy in southeast Ohio.
"We know from talking to NASA and NASA Glenn in Cleveland as well as Sunpower Inc. in Athens that this is "the" technology for the future of deep space exploration," said senator Rob Portman.
"So we're excited about the technology. We believe it's the right thing for the taxpayer and it also happens to be good for jobs in Athens, Ohio."
Portman said the technology will add more high-tech jobs in the region and is less costly for taxpayers. He hopes it will be approved and added to the NASA Reauthorization Bill.
